How to Use North Wolf Wool Polishing Pad?

North Wolf wool polishing pads are made of 100% high-quality natural wool (Australian wool for select models), featuring strong cutting power, durability, and a bevel-edge design for safe polishing. They are compatible with dual-action (DA), rotary (RO), and gear-action (GA) polishers, ideal for removing deep scratches, swirl marks, water spots, and sanding marks on automotive paintwork.

What You Need

  • North Wolf wool polishing pad (5”/6”/7” sizes available)
  • Polisher (DA/rotary/GA) with matching Velcro backing plate
  • Polishing compound (heavy-cut for deep defects, medium-cut for general polishing)
  • Clean water
  • Microfiber towels
  • Neutral detergent (for cleaning)

Step-by-Step Usage Guide

1. Pre-Use Preparation
Clean the Surface: Thoroughly wash and dry the vehicle to remove dust, dirt, and debris—this prevents scratching the paint during polishing.
Condition the Pad: Soak the wool pad in clean water for 2–5 minutes until fully saturated. Squeeze out excess water, then attach it to the polisher. Run the polisher at low speed (500–800 RPM) for 5 seconds to spin off remaining water—this ensures even compound distribution.
Test in an Inconspicuous Area: Before full use, test the pad and compound on a hidden section of the car (e.g., door jamb) to check for paint compatibility and avoid damage.
2. Application of Polishing Compound
Shake the polishing compound well. Apply 3–5 small dots of compound evenly across the pad’s surface (avoid over-applying to prevent splattering).
Lightly press the pad against the paint surface and run the polisher at low speed (1000 RPM) for a few seconds to spread the compound uniformly over the pad.

3. Polishing Process

Set the Speed:
For heavy cutting (deep scratches/sanding marks): 1500–2000 RPM.
For light polishing (swirl marks/water spots): 1200–1500 RPM.
Polishing Technique:
Hold the polisher with both hands, keeping the pad flat against the paint (avoid tilting to prevent edge damage).
Move the polisher in straight, overlapping passes (overlap each pass by 1/3) along the vehicle’s body lines.
Keep the pad moving continuously—do not let it sit in one spot for more than 2–3 seconds to avoid heat buildup and paint burning.
Monitor Temperature: If the paint surface feels hot to the touch, stop and spray a small amount of water to cool it down before resuming.

4. Post-Polishing Steps
Wipe Residue: After polishing a section, wipe the surface with a clean microfiber towel to remove compound residue and inspect results.
Clean the Pad:
Rinse the pad under running water immediately after use. Gently squeeze (do not rub or scrub) to remove compound and debris.
For heavy buildup, use a small amount of neutral detergent, rinse thoroughly, and squeeze out excess water.
Dry and Store:
Hang the pad in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area (avoid direct sunlight or heat sources) until completely dry.
Store the dry pad in a clean, dry place—do not stack heavy objects on top, and keep it away from moisture and open flames.

Key Tips & Precautions
Avoid Dry Polishing: Never use the pad dry—this causes excessive heat, scratches the paint, and shortens the pad’s lifespan.
Pad Compatibility: Use a backing plate that matches the pad’s size (e.g., 5” pad with 5” backing plate) for optimal balance.
Velcro Care: North Wolf’s heat-resistant Velcro backing prevents peelingNorth Wolf. Avoid pulling the pad roughly when removing it from the backing plate.
Replace When Worn: If the wool becomes matted, frayed, or loses cutting power, replace the pad to maintain polishing quality.
